Meeting of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Working Group of the Special Committee for Reviewing the Recent Floods / Emphasis on Protecting the Zagros Forest Cover

The President of Lorestan University said: "Strengthening the Zagros forest cover and paying attention to issues such as watershed management and aquifer management are among the important solutions to reduce flood damage."

The meeting of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Working Group, which is one of the working groups of the Special Committee for the Study of the Recent Floods in the country, was held on Wednesday evening, July 24, at the office of the President of Lorestan University and with the presence of Dr. Khosro Azizi.

In this meeting, which was also attended by the head of the working group, Dr. Taghi Shamkhi, Dr. Khosro Azizi emphasized the use of all the capacities and capabilities of academics to provide scientific solutions to deal with natural hazards, including floods.

He explained: "With the efforts of the Vice President for Research and Technology of Lorestan University, a comprehensive scientific report on the causes of the recent floods in Lorestan province has been prepared, with an emphasis on solutions."

Dr. Azizi stated: "More efforts to preserve forests is an important issue, and in this regard, the Oak Research Center of Lorestan University has been established."

The President of Lorestan University stated: "Protecting the vegetation and forests is an important solution to prevent extensive damage during floods."

He emphasized that the executive bodies should use the scientific, research, and investigative capacities and capabilities of academics to address the challenges.

The Vice President for Research and Technology of Lorestan University, Dr. Mohammad Feyzian, also emphasized in this meeting the strengthening of demand-oriented theses on solutions to deal with floods and natural hazards.

Dr. Feyzian stated: "All efforts should be made to protect the Zagros forests with scientific and academic approaches."

 The members present at this meeting, including the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources of Lorestan University (Dr. Jahanshir Shakerami), expressed their views and opinions on the role and importance of forests in reducing the burden of flood damage and reducing soil erosion.

It is worth mentioning that the members of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Working Group, which is under the Special Committee for the Study of the Recent Floods in the country, visited the flood-affected areas of Poldokhtar city before holding this meeting.
