Public relations plays various roles in different positions and conditions distinct from each other, but its two distinguishable roles in intra-organizational and extra-organizational communications are more prominent among other roles.
The art of public relations is to be able to recognize the possibilities and conditions of the external environment and connect them with the facilities within the organization, facilitate the implementation of intra-organizational orders, and ultimately establish the organization's communication with the outside world correctly. In this regard, the first step is to know the environment and the organization, and the purpose of this knowledge is to identify and examine the internal and external strengths and weaknesses.
The main organizational goal of universities is to promote educational and research affairs. The university consists of three groups of academics, including professors, students, and staff. The university management is responsible for coordinating between these three groups. Management needs the necessary tools and mechanisms to achieve this goal. One of these mechanisms is the university's public relations department. Without an efficient public relations, creating coordination and cooperation in universities towards higher goals is not possible. The basic function of the public relations department is of fundamental importance for the scientific, cultural, and research advancements of universities. Strengthening public relations seems necessary to strengthen emotional relationships between university managers on the one hand and professors, students, and staff on the other.
Public relations, as the most important management mechanism of universities, plays an important role in coordination, information dissemination, and culture building. Special attention to public relations as an institution that can systematically, planned, and measuredly work to strengthen interaction and understanding between different parts of the university is important.
